Hello, first-timer here. This was so good for me to hear (you reading). Much of what is on both of your lists hit home to me. Thank you for honest sharing.
Thanks so much for stopping by to read, Jane. Welcome to my little table here on substack. I hope your new year is off to a gentle start and that you’re finding joy in each new day.
I love these words. I haven't adopted any for the year yet but I have my more/less list going, and scheduling like a manager is on there. I need time constraints, as you know ; ) I'd love to develop the daily habit of walking, too. I'm too "all or nothing" and need to learn to take the 10 minute walk when that's all that is available.
We are alike in this. I don't know why it's hard to accept the 10 minute walk as better than nothing, but in this (exercise especially!) if I don't have a chunk of time, I struggle to do any at all. It's not a good thing, but on re-reading the maker/manager schedule description, it makes so much sense that it is a struggle. Makers need expanses of time, and those (in certain seasons) can be really hard to come by...Looking forward to connecting with you again soon! You know I'm here cheering you onward.
I'm fasting this week with my church and I have to admit it's my first time fasting from food (I've done it with other things before during Lent). I might have to check out that book! Walking has also been more in my routine for over the past year and it's so worth it! I'd like to get into making art weekly, my fingers itch for the tactile experience. Maybe after my book is launched! I could make it a summer project. . .
The fasting book is really good--well worth a read. I love that you're fasting with your community this week. And yes to making more art!! ;) Summer is a great season to develop a habit of play, but I hope you can get to it before then. It's so good for your soul. ;)
Dear Kris, how lovely to find some words from you in my Inbox this morning! I've been missing you....
I hadn't thought about a word for the year much until my Spiritual Director appt last week and we prayed together....I'm going with the word 'wonder' for now--but not wonder as in looking for marvelous things, but wonder as in, puzzlement or curiosity.
Mostly wondering about God's word--reading it with new eyes. Paying attention.
Hi friend! I love that you're going with the word Wonder, this year. Curiosity kept coming up for me as I prayed about my word, but I knew that ultimately, it was not the word for me this year...I shall remain curious though and foster my own curiosity however I can. I look forward to seeing what your year of Wonder brings to life in you.

So glad to be able to hear your voice reading your words here, Kris!
Thanks friend. I don't often have time to record the articles, but I felt like I needed to squeeze this one in. Let's talk soon? (for real!!) XXO
